A Look At 2007

Artists-in-Residence • Friday December 7th, 2007 • 9:26 pm

Have to tell you all that I’m a bit excited about our year-end coverage here at Stereo Subversion, only because it means a few things. First, it’s exciting to just look back at the last year and discuss what was meaningful and what wasn’t worth our time. Reflecting is always important, if for nothing else than to appreciate what came our way. Secondly, it’s also our first glimpse of this manner and it’s an exciting chapter for our site development – like a baby’s first step or something not nearly that important.

So what do we have in mind? “Lemme guess, another Top 10 Albums list” you might be saying. My answer is, “Of course! What else would you have us do?” We are infatuated with lists as much as the next music magazine, so of course we have to offer the same list through an SSv lens of sorts. But we are also not stopping there, as we will have multiple lists running all next week. Instead of our typical interviews, we will instead be featuring lists all week long for our look back at 2007.

Monday will find our very own Jonathan Scott weighing in on the Top 10 Disappointments of 2007 (album style). Don’t worry – no Britney Spears or some sort of other normal disappointment here. We’re talking about the artists that should have done more and let us down in a giant, sonic sort of way.

Tuesday and Wednesday bring lists of a different sort as Staff Writers Anthony Saggese and Dave Cantor bring you the Top 10 Debuts and Top 10 Reissues respectively. We’re excited to highlight both the best of the old and new to allow you to appreciate both sides of the spectrum.

Finally, Thursday rounds out our coverage with our overall Top 10 Albums of 2007 list, which is actually a compilation of all of our combined staff lists. We will also link to several staff lists to give you an idea of what some of your favorite reviewers and writers are thinking.

Our goal is to give you well-rounded coverage to look back at the next year. And we have several ideas in the works to make 2008 even better. There’s a lot of Meaningful Music out there and we’re finding more and more ways to bring it to your attention.
