AthFest 2009

on .

This past weekend marked the annual summer festival in Athens, GA known simply as AthFest.  As a UGA grad and, more importantly, a musician that owes most of my career to Athens, I was there in full form. We,  Trances Arc,  played the Slush Fund Records/New West Records Day Party, and it was a blast.   What I love about Athens and its ever-continuing arms in the music world is that year after year the city remains fresh, new and vibrant.  We played with 5 other artist, all who commanded the crowd’s attention through every song.  The Judies, The Empties, DropSonic, Lera Lynn, and Ponderosa all sweated it out at Little Kings on Hancock Ave.  It was a day filled with music and culture and I could not have asked for a better lineup.  The whole city shuts down for this little (becoming big) soiree and the kids were crowding the streets this year.  I spent 5 years living and playing in Athens, GA and I implore any and all of you to make it a stop on your traveling journey someday.  There is so much to see and do in this little town and the music is top-notch.  AthFest will return again next year with the same buzz and electricity it always has.  If you’re around this area come late June, stop by and soak it in.  Your ears will be ringing, as mine are now, but you’ll never forget what you saw.
