Django Django Nominated for the Mercury Prize’s “2012 Albums of the Year”
Django Django’s self-titled debut album has just been nominated for the Mercury Prize’s much acclaimed “2012 Albums of the Year” award. The winner will announced November 1st.
The band has already received great critical acclaim:
“Scotsmen craft art pop full of hooks, wit and weirdness.”
– Rolling Stone [Band to Watch; Mid-year Report: The Best Albums of 2012 So Far]
“The U.K. neo-psych band’s kitschy, futuristic video for the infections single takes us to a pastel-colored dimension that looks like a tropical version of TRON.”
- Entertainment Weekly “Must List”
“one of 2012′s most thrilling records. . . The sometimes-strange, fabulously infectious mix they’ve crafted is the result of the band’s determined eclecticism. Django Django is part surf-rock and part Motown, with elements of blues, cosmic space-pop and Egyptian music, glittery Beach Boys harmonies and tribal rhythms.”
- NPR Music “First Listen”
“Americana-tinged rock from a few Brits with their ears wide open. Django Django originates in the same tradition of the Beatles, Kinks, and Stones – titans that were also super-sensitive to the sounds swelling well outside their lane.”
– SPIN [5 Best New Artist for September '12]
The Scottish exports are also currently on a North American tour. Check out the dates here.
