April of this year saw Akron/Family release Set ‘Em Wild, Set ‘Em Free, the follow up to 2007’s Love is Simple, and with the new album came plenty of changes. Slight augmentations in the band’s line up witnessed the departure of Ryan Vanderhoof, and along with this the band also moved to their new label home at Dead Oceans. However, despite these rather significant changes, Akron/Family pulls together on Set ‘Em Wild, crafting enticing folk tinged psychedelia, peppered with momentum infused vocal chants. “River” displays the band’s ability to embrace their significant changes, as the track gallantly bounces trough it’s various forays into rock, folk, and flirtations with orchestral sounds. If you have yet to put an ear to Set ‘Em Wild now is your chance to do so, and look for the band to tour through your home town as they continue their marathon run across the country.
