Garotas Suecas-Codinome Dinamite

Hot, Hot, Hot! Brazil doesn’t have a reputation without reason, and Garotas Suecas are a great example of that reason. It’s got kickin’ rhythms, Portuguese singing, a party atmosphere, and a rock n’ roll attitude. They were one of Spin Magazine’s 20 Must-Hear Artists from SXSW 2009 and it’s easy to see why. The press release describes the music as “fuzzed-out, psychedelic garage rock nu-Tropicalia” and that’s as good a description as any. They remind me of Aterciopelados from Venezuala who shares that high energy, makes you want to jump up with joy and dance kind of vibe. Interestingly, the Portuguese: “Codinome Dinamite” is phonetically related to the English: “Codename Dynamites,” and that they are.
