And to think, all this time I thought that Old Crow Medicine Show had the market cornered when it comes to unchecked, raw, excess driven roots music, but obviously I had yet to hear The Defibulators. Much like the medical tool of similar sound and slightly altered spelling, The Defibulators deliver a therapeutic musical shock to the system, imparting a bit of their primal aggression via a conduit of 50’s tinged twang and garnished with a dash of the devil’s own fiddle. “Thin Air” begins with a hybrid mixture of Orbison/Cash guitar, and then dashes head long into a lyrical world fleshed out with characters such as a “hooker on buisness going yap, yap, yap”. The Defibulators are helping to usher SXSW to a close, but don’t worry, while SXSW fades into that good night, the Defibulators are playing an onging after party that will see them tour across much of the Mid-West. Prepare yourselves!
