I must admit, I am not the world’s most educated hip-hop critic. In fact you might be able to fill an ocean with all that I don’t know about the sprawling genre, however I do know what I like, and as far as I am concerned, anything the Beat Konducta touches turns to gold. In light of this, Mos Def’s upcoming release,The Ectatic, is proving to be a welcome installment of tracks, sublimely guided by Madlib’s Midas Touch. “Auditorium” is an all-consuming sonic experience from first to last with Mos Def’s relaxed verbal onslaught being propelled by elegant beats entrenched in Madlib’s enigmatic and occasionally schizophrenic production style. Even the guest spot on this track is skillfully structured, with Slick Rick entering on cue immediately following a brief intermission from the Beat Konducta’s flawless sonic foundation. There is a lot to get excited about with this track, so prepare your-self for The Estatic, available June 9.
