New Single From Junior Boys: “Banana Ripple”
That soothing image above graces the cover of the first single off the upcoming Junior Boys album, It’s All True, out June 14th on Domino Records. “Banana Ripple”, like many a successful Junior Boys track, ingratiates itself with steely, synthetic professionalism rather than desperately begging for your attention. Unlike many successful Junior Boys tracks, it’s also nine minutes long. Not a tremendous stretch for them (many fantastic songs on 2004’s Last Exit landed between six and seven minutes without ever losing the listener), but still a bit of a gamble as a lead single. Nonetheless, Junior Boys use that time expertly, pushing a thumping groove and squiggly synths early, and subtly ramping the energy and instrumentation up until a series of falsettos are barreling over each other and everything else. Then, because the Junior Boys aren’t anarchic types, they corral the whole affair to a graceful and orderly close.
Starting in early June, you can catch Junior Boys’ elegant electro-pop at various locales across North America. Dates are below.
