Whenever someone asks where all the girls are in music anymore, it’s good to have a band like Those Darlins to throw on the table. Their debut EP, Wild One, presents Nikki, Kelley, and Jessi Darlin as three assertive, energetic, and talented musicians who know how to have a good time and then tell you all about in songs that’ll get people on their feet.

Whether they’re proudly singing about a reckless lifestyle (“Wild One”) or killing time simply talking being able to finish their food (“Whole Damn Thing”), Those Darlins have figured out how to make each track sound like exactly the next jam you want to hear at a backyard party of old comrades and partners in mischief. Their instruments — guitar, bass, and baritone ukelele — make up the core of their sound. Their melodies and jangly rhythms are reminiscent of classic Tennessee hits of yesteryear than too much pop-country from nowadays.

Their entire aesthetic evokes an old-time jamboree feel mixed in with a new century cool, dusting off Nashville’s most down home roots and giving listeners a new reason to tune in. A host of companions to fill in on drums, strings, saxophone, and even belly slaps. With so much happening in each song, the three-song EP could runs the risk of sounding cluttered. However, with Wild One, the full palette sounds more like stepping into the middle of an impromptu jam session, just enough to whet the palette and brace audiences for a promising future full-length.
