Seeing Bob Dylan on Day 4 (Sunday) was much better than I expected. I’ll follow up tomorrow with a full review of The Dead, Willie Nelson, and Dylan. My expectations for Dylan were really high, even though I generally mistrust nostalgia acts. It’s BOB DYLAN.
What made the show worth seeing was the realization that Dylan was still at a very creative level. His rearrangements of the classics were inspired, never rote. HIs band filled out a sound that was absolutely distinctively Bob Dylan, even to a more casual fan like myself, yet very contemporary.
Also, look for more words tomorrow about meeting Girl Talk, The Hold Steady in the middle of the afternoon, and some general thoughts about how Rothbury stepped it up this year.
