A wonderful repeating guitar line opens “Cat Swallow” reminiscent of the bird in the title. Enter a little Americana guitar hook, a rock drummer not afraid to experiment a little and a lead singer that often walks the fine edge between singing and screaming. Mix them all together and you have the Royal Bangs, which refers to a type of haircut, the Queens sausages, or doing it against your tires several times, but I digress. Later in the song each instrument is given a chance to lead and the rest of the band provides good support. It’s a story about the hero/warrior/legend Cat Swallow. At least that’s my interpretation of the lyrics. I invite comments on this one. In any case, it’s solid American rock music out of Lexington, Kentucky.
